The Salvation Army South San Francisco Citadel Corps – Working with Youth

Youth Worker
STATUS: Non-Exempt/Part-Time (27 hours/week; Sunday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday)
The role of the Youth Worker is to develop, direct, and coordinate the South San Francisco Citadel Corps youth programs and to assist the Corps Officers with seasonal programs, corps programs and outreach.
  • Manage and direct Christian Education Programs i.e. Sunday School, Junior Church, Troops.
  • Encourage people in the youth programs of the corps in their Christian faith, development, and evangelism.
  • Assist with weekly youth music program.
  • Create and distribute outreach material in order to promote Corps programs in the community.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to help with various programs.
  • Develop, and oversee teen program(s). Weekly activities need to be scheduled, planned and implemented that will draw youth, encourage growth and increase attendance.
  • This will be for both Junior High and High School students provide them specific activities that would enhance them and motivate them to grow into whole adults: balanced physically, emotionally and spiritually.
  • Develop a linkage where these students can take part in the Salvation Army programs and memberships such as Corps Cadets, YPL, Music Camp, Junior Soldiers and Senior Soldiers.
  • Develop Red Kettle Club in local school
  • Assist in the visitation of all Corps and program children
    • Especially the neighborhood around the Corps
    • Keep visitation log (for statistics)
  • Provide transportation for weekly youth programs and Sunday meetings.
  • Promote and organize attendance to youth conferences, Salvation Army Youth (SAY) Summit, and other youth related events and retreats.
  • Assist in coordinating Summer Camp, which includes driving youth to and from camp.
  • Work with Corps Officers and Corps Leaders to plan and develop a Vacation Bible School program.
  • Follow all “Protect the Mission” guidelines.
  • Participate in all assigned meetings i.e. holiness, staff, corps council, youth.
  • Information management:
    • Keep all attendance records and prepare all statistics and youth reports as required by DHQ.
    • Create and send all youth related reports to DHQ on time.
    • Submit weekly and monthly statistics for youth programs.
    • Create and maintain database of young people and leaders.
    • Be responsible for communication with officers, directors, leaders, youth and parents.
    • Promote youth involvement and personally be involved in Corps Holiday activities e.g. Christmas Kettles, Christmas toy drive and Christmas distributions.
    • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Must display a sincere burden for the hearts and lives of those that are under his/her care.
  • Must work well with children, and teens and have a sincere love for people as a whole.
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Must have valid California driver’s license
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Experience in administrative duties including, but not limited to: filing, telephone work, record keeping and statistics
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to solve problems and deal with crisis situations
  • Ability to maintain good rapport and communication with staff members and volunteers
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office package ( Word, Excel, Access)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good organizational skills, ability to handle multiple tasks, willingness to learn
  • Ability to work independently, as a part of a team, and with minimum supervision
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Familiarity with Salvation Army preferred
