2018 GraduationMay 5th, 2018
4 months to go.

fruitvale movieFirst, from Carmen Stockberger: the Black Student Union is hosting a showing of “Fruitvale Station,” which is based on events leading to the death of Oscar Grant in Oakland, CA in 2009. In January, members of BSU attended the Afrikan Black Coalition Conference in Irvine, CA and had the chance to meet members of Oscar’s family. On a whim, they reached out to the family to let them know they were showing the movie on campus and his uncle has decided to come to campus for that film showing and is willing to speak to anyone attending the event after the movie.  As you can imagine, this is a very exciting development for the students who are a part of BSU and they hope to have a big turnout for the movie tonight. I encourage everyone to come if you’re able! The movie will begin at 7 pm in Saint Joe’s first floor lounge.

Finally, with these two very special events on campus tonight, there will be parking issues… and solutions.  Please see the notice below from the Dean of Students and allow yourself a few extra minutes to find parking in an alternate location (not far from classrooms, just in lots usually not for NDNU use).
Notification to NDNU Students, Faculty and Staff
RE: Evening Parking, Thursday, February 12
We want to notify you that there will be restricted parking in the upper parking lot this coming Thursday, February 12 in order to accommodate the many guests coming to commemorate the 10 Anniversary of Sr. Dorothy Stang’s death.
We have arranged for utilization of additional parking at Notre Dame Elementary School at the end of Laxague Rd. and at Notre Dame High School accessible off Ralston Avenue via the entrance 50 yards west on Ralston Ave. As you enter campus, a Public Safety Officer will be there to direct you to available parking. Please follow their instructions.
To thank you for accommodating the needs of this very special event, the Sr. Dorothy Stang Center invites you to stop by The Café on campus for a complementary beverage of your choice that evening. You are also welcome to stop by Cunningham Chapel after your evening class and meet some of Sr. Dorothy’s family and friends who will be gathered in the foyer after 8:30pm, and partake in more hot beverages and refreshments.
In gratitude,
Jim McGarry
Director of the Sister Dorothy Stang Center
and
Jean Grech Conde
Dean of Students
