POSITION SUMMARY:

  • To assist inmates individually with release planning including needed assistance after release
  • To assure the prompt collection, transmission and response distribution of messages and/or requests from inmates of the jails.

  PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •  Refer any release plan questions from inmate to the appropriate staff inside the facility.
  • Maintain office hours to provide assistance to those experiencing a difficult transition into the community, and to the families of inmates experiencing difficulties.
  • Maintain food pantry and coordinate with Second Food Harvest.
  • Maintain and develop resource contacts to implement client assistance and to hasten the Message Request program process.
  • Facilitate communication between the inmate who is waiting to be sentenced and those individuals necessary to expedite the judicial process (lawyers, probation officers, parole agents, etc.), while ALWAYS remaining neutral concerning individual cases.
  • Conduct weekly orientations in the jail.
  • Arrange for jury trial dress-outs.
  • Keep supervisor informed by providing timely reports, including statistics on program attendance, and inmate message/requests.
  • Arrange or provide notary services to inmates and others as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred; candidates with strong experience will be considered.
  • Experience working with the incarcerated population, ex-offenders, homeless or other at risk populations is desired.
  • Experience working within the non-profit sector.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and computer skills.
  • Must be able to clear criminal background record and have a valid driver’s licenses.
  • Must be willing to use your own vehicle with valid insurance (limited driving).
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) Desired.
