Before she was an attorney, author, advocate and speaker, Carissa Phelps was a victim of domestic sex trafficking, which started when she was 12. In her memoir, Runaway Girl: Escaping Life on the Streets, One Helping Hand at a Time, Carissa shares her extraordinary story of survival.
With the help of key individuals and supportive programs, she took back her life, eventually receiving a law degree and an MBA from UCLA. Her personal struggle has given her the courage to expose and respond to sex trafficking, especially of minors, throughout the United States. Carissa is a part of a global network and a local social enterprise seeking to connect resources and assist youth in rebuilding their lives.
