Did you miss our “First Night” events at which Financial Aid counselors explained the implications of new regulations that went into effect July 1?  If so, please consider attending the Second Annual SALT event on Wednesday, September 11, at 5:15 in the Quad outside of St. Mary’s.

SALT is a nonprofit organization organized to help students better manage their student loans.  Their announcement says that “SALT will help you borrow less, borrow smart, and repay your loans successfully.  It will also help you find a scholarship, internship, or job.  Snag money-saving deals and more!”

If you missed the First Night event and can’t make the SALT event, please consider making an appointment with a Financial Aid counselor.  The new regulations make it especially important that you submit  your community college transcripts on time each semester.  (This is also important in terms of effective academic advising.)  They include more stringent regulations about how many semesters you can get both Pell Grants and Loans.  They also give even greater emphasis to the importance of consortium agreements.  As one Financial Aid officer told me, “the rules have changed.  Students need to read everything they receive and be aware of their status!”
