“View the largest public display of works from this West Coast artist, whose dynamic and soulful paintings depicting mixed neighborhoods in East Los Angeles were recently on display for the Getty.” -Via Magazine.
Paintings and Drawings of Roberto Chavez will be on display at the Weigand Gallery from January 23 until February 23, 2013. This is an exciting exhibition, I was told, because after a recent exhibition at the Autry Museum, there is new interest in his work, which is now being purchased by museums all over the country. This will be one of the last opportunities to see this work all in one place. This article explains a bit about him, especially his sense of humor, though his work also addresses many serious topics.
You are invited to a reception on Sunday, January 27 from 2:00-4:00 p.m., which will feature a discussion by painter Robert Ross, a friend of the artist.
Weigand Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 12:00-4:00 p.m. Admission is free. For information, see the Gallery’s web site
